We are a national web design franchise company based in Torquay, Devon, and we’re now looking for a front end web developer to join our fast-growing team and help us bring our website projects to life
About the role
The successful candidate will work closely with our web designers, creating bespoke websites for small and medium size businesses from a wide range of industries. Each site will be built to a high standard within our unique CMS, using our own in-house layout language and styling with CSS.
While you will be building the websites created by our in-house design team, you’ll also using your own judgement to produce responsive sites that look great on all screen sizes. There will be ongoing opportunities to hone your coding skills to a high level as part of the role.
Main responsibilities:
Producing high quality, accurate front-end builds based on the design visuals provided.
Developing responsive websites that cater for the latest technologies and deliver great UX and UI
Assisting team members with code-based issues and queries, implementing fixes and enhancements for both new and old sites.
As you grow in confidence in the role there is scope for you to expand your responsibilities should you wish, including working on our own marketing websites, training other less experienced staff members and quoting for and completing custom work for our clients.
About you
We are seeking a passionate individual with a fundamental understanding of website coding, as well as a keen interest in web design as a whole.
Ideally, you'll have a portfolio of websites that you’ve not only coded yourself but have had a hand in the design of too - we are looking for someone who is prepared to demonstrate their technical skills while also having some creative ability.
You’ll be a team player who is also self-motivated and able to work to tight deadlines; you’ll have a keen eye for detail and a hunger to learn and improve.
You will receive full training on how to code our bespoke CMS, with ongoing support from the rest of our close-knit front-end team. We are however looking for someone who can hit the ground running and ideally you will be confident in the skills listed below.
Essential skills and experience:
Excellent knowledge of HTML and CSS
Good understanding of responsive design principles
A strong sense of web design fundamentals
UI, UX, and user-based design knowledge
Able to communicate complicated technical concepts for staff and clients of varying levels of ability
Ability to communicate with and work closely with our great team of front-end coders and designers.
Desirable:
SCSS
Javascript
Experience using the Adobe Creative Suite – particularly Adobe XD but also Photoshop and Illustrator
Previous experience building sites using any CMS
About this vacancy
This is a full time hybrid working role based at our national Head Office in Torquay for 2 days per week and from home 3 days per week. Salary will be £22-25k depending on experience.
Working hours are 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday.
